Samara is back to terrorize television sets everywhere in the new sequel to The Ring, the not-so-creatively named Rings. Starring Johnny Galecki and some people I’ve never heard of, this movie has – well – not had the best reviews so far. If it’s anything like The Ring Two, I would say you’re better off watching the 2002 original remake (Is that right?), The Ring.
As I’m writing this, IMDB has scored Rings at a 5.2, and it has the always scary 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I usually give horror movies the benefit of the doubt because critics just don’t normally like them, but a 0%? That’s just disheartening. I mean The Ring Two, which was TERRIBLE, has a 20%. Remember the deer? Remember that? That movie has a better rating than this one.
Needless to say, I will probably not be spending my money to watch this in theaters, but like with all horror movies, I expect to watch it (and probably own it for cheap) when it’s out on blu-ray.
If you’re looking for a fix, just rewatch The Ring, or if you’re a purist, watch Ringu. Both great movies and both much better than any sequels they’ve delivered.
Also, make sure to check out my past post here about my experience with The Ring so you can understand why it’s one of my favorite horror movies.
Have you seen Rings? Let me know what you think about it in the comments. Maybe you’ll change my mind about seeing it in theaters.
